ICC in the Media, Update #42

This week the media has focused on a variety of ICC cases, investigation and potential investigations. As we mentioned last week, the Lubanga trial - the ICC's first - is now completed. The ICC Prosecutor said in his closing statement that Lubanga is guilty "beyond any possible doubt," and the defense countered by saying that the prosecution's witnesses "lied." The judges are now deliberating on whether to find the defendant guilty of numerous counts of war crimes. The following clip explains further:

In the Kenya case, the first three suspects have returned to the Hague for their confirmation of charges hearings set for September 1, 2011. The hearings for suspects Ruto, Kosgey and Sang are expected to last until September 12, and the determination of charges will be made by the judges within 60 days after that. Several suspects have made statements that they are confident the charges will not be confirmed. In other news, in the Libya case, the ICC Prosecutor made a statement on Monday that he may apply for an arrest warrant against Khamis Gaddafi, another of Gaddafi's sons, after Khamis reportedly led executions in Tripoli.
