Last week, Tiina Intelmann, the President of the Assembly of
States Parties, wrote a blog
for Huffington Post about the relationship between the ICC and the United
States in the past months. She highlighted
the important role the US has played in supporting the Court, such as transferring
Bosco Ntaganda from the US Embassy in Kigali to the Court in March, and how
that assistance is necessary for the success of the International Criminal
Court and ending impunity worldwide.
Intelmann emphasized the need for not only States Parties, but also “non-States
parties and the broader international community [to work together] for the sake of justice and
accountability for atrocity crimes.” Intelmann
ended by noting that since the ICC is a court of last resort, it is important
for nations to support not only the Court, but also each other in order to conduct
effective domestic investigations and prosecution of atrocity crimes.
